You are correct Sam, Norbert did outstanding work on that boat. Inside and outside.

big decision ... I stop with rally.
I'm tired of the new regulations , every year something new.... which leaves you with invested time/money on a car ...worth nothing.
I feel the general idea, they want to make it for "historic" cars as difficult as possible .... so was this year the first in which a oldtimer must be 100% original.
That's the reason i could not use my BMW any further , after many years wrenching to get a so reliable car . Never had any problem.
The Porsche 928 instead.... first rally with oem suspension was no surprize that it didn't work.... so a 928GT suspension and stiffer springs. Think still good for tech inspection.
Second rally , abandon ,fuel pump...solved, but i do not thrust fully the K-Jetronic injection for events as rallies. My dream Weber carbs... yeah, not good for inspection , so every year a week ? wrenching to get it again oem.....as long as the rally inspection per event accepts it.. ?? . No, no more motivation. What will it be next year ? again new surprizes ?
My biggest fear is in case of a accident.... if they find mods on your car , you can forget your insurance ... you can be ruined.
Also my white 928 , build almost finished now for the few regularity rallies with a class for "rally" cars.... no more allowed. Must be street legal ....
No more fun , regularity , as long as it is still allowed !, will be with oem cars , no more the feeling of a "rally" event. Just plain cars with stickers....sure no more a hydraulic hand brake for example....no thanks.
And indeed, already this year i have seen more cars with foreign license plates... a way to avoid all that shit , but to expensive for me. Most will be hired cars , included insurance....but with a "big" franchise , and endless discussions/lawyers after accident... i heard enough storys.
What options ?
Track days... but not my thing... after 5 laps i get bored.
Rally... pure speed ... i'm to old for that , to much stress. I've done it when so much younger....
Besides , that's more waiting then driving. And mechanical problems, so you need a service team etc...to expensive without a "sponsor".
And what is the use of it when you don't have the budget for a new car in case of total loss....could be a very short experience.
no, i'm done with it. Govt wins. Sad....
More, i will sell my cars... in my case with 5 oldtimers, it would become a part time job to get them all pass inspection , every year again stupid surprizes, that this or that isn't acceptable. One will be enough... our Morgan of course for sunny trips with wifey.
Darn Barry, I hate to see you have to give up something that you love so much. But they are getting that way here about the old cars. Every year they raise the registration and do everything they can to make people get rid of them. The state will buy them for $500 and then the politicians will keep the ones they like and have the others crushed.
Ron
Ron, at least you guys can still drive "kit" cars as some Cobra's.... here that is long time gone. Only factory with certificates of conformity.....
Friend of my son had his Porsche disapproved because the seats , oem Porsche, are not the correct build year.... omg. So , one buys a car, not even seeing this , not inspected .. , the following year inspection.... and you can go searching for the correct seats....
Many have to buy new ignition lock/keys.... lately "they" test if the key can be extracted when running....surprize, in many oldtimers can that be done due age /worn ?? .... courage if you have a rare brand... lucky BMW and Porsche are still available , but $$$$$
So sad to read this. Hard to have fun and compete when they are changing the rules while still in motion. Why not organize a group and lobby for some form of “unlimited” class that allows you to race whatever you want to bring? The government here tried to ruin motor sports racing and especially street car modifications. SEMA (Specialty Equipment Manufacturers Association) became a powerful lobbying effort here representing hundreds of thousands (millions?) of auto enthusiasts for getting the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) to approve 50-state CARB-compliant mods (California Air Resources Board). You can win but you have to band together and show strength in numbers and threaten the politicians in a just and legal way. If it’s attached to taxes (revenue), they will listen.

"...tires spitting gravel, I commit my weekly crime."
Dean , most , if not all , new rules in Belgium are demanded by the EU ! ( Europe govt ) . At least that's what our govt uses as a excuse.
Europe want to see us all in little electric cars .....do our job and pay taxes.
Also for the clubs it becomes more and more difficult to organize a rally event. All villages that we pass must give permit ... so some are already asking a tax per car or organise a extra police control.... last rally they were hiding at a little roundabout , to see if we stop before entering it.... it was late in the evening , good visual with street lights , in the middle of nowhere... no traffic ... everybody slows down , but nobody really stops .... and a fine of course.
Others were random taken for a complete check car&papers... and yes, most cars are not "street legal " in little details....for example we all use tires a bit wider then oem....
I agree they can do speed controls when we are at public roads... but it goes further to discourage us.
Well Norbert that sucks big time and I'm sorry to hear it.
Since this is a EU thing will you even be able to sell your vehicles? And if so, will it be a pennies on the dollar type thing where buyers will not want to pay much because of the laws?
And for the life of me I cannot understand how the people of Europe let a bunch of non-elected officials make up the EU and can tell the governments of independent countries what they can and cannot do.
No matter what I wish you the best Norbert in whatever you decide to do.
Maybe you could start making midget porn as you know Nomad would become your best customer.
Indeed John , the value of our cars will drop ... at least the estimated cost to make it all oem again for street use.
Perhaps some for only rally/track .... to be transported on a trailer.
Yes, EU... that is just a extra govt of 50.000 parasites to give all old banned politicians from the countries a refuge, so they can further play "VIP" in receptions and dinners ,well over payed. Incredible .... Happy for the UK , the Brexit is a fact ! Even the EU did a miss anouncement , saying they made the exit that difficult for the UK , so no other country would follow ! No wonder , it's their golden egg...
Everybody talks about how much financial help we get from the EU.... nobody what it cost to be member in the first place .... the UK did ! and decided to leave ....
No wonder almost all politicians are pro EU...it's their rescue when things go wrong local for them.
PS nice detail , whenever there is a EU congress , no matter where, they see a huge hotel booking from prostitutes....fact.
did some work on the supercharged 850i..... who likes to shred belts. Now last time the belt run of , not broken.
Problem was it's difficult to find the correct belt length for my custom setup. Now i mounted 2 new rollers with smaller diameters so that a more "standard" length 1790 mm can be used instead of the 1815mm i was using. The oem belt tensioner hasn't that much range....I can just put the belt on now before tensioning , so that must be "ok".... can't be better.
Also a new pulley on the charger as it wasn't perfect aligned ....
I wanted to buy a Gates belt out of the RPM series.... K050705RPM ...my dealer contacted the Europe office , not available here ! seems only in the US .... strange.
Gates claim those as being 3 times stronger than a normal one , i just wonder why do they still make normal ones ?
Perhaps i must look to order one in the US..... if they ship it .
Norbert, if worse comes to worse I can buy it and ship it to you. Just let me know.
Thanks John , but i just ordered one . Had to search a bit , either they didn't ship to Belgium , either not in stock.... but succes at RockAuto.com !
Well WaffleHead, just keep in mind that if you need anything let me know. I'm here for you.

Hey Dad, I saw a nice 928 at the Mecum Kissimmee car auction today and thought of you and my inheritance (from you). Since you can’t rally race any longer maybe the postman will deliver a huge crate to my driveway soon?
Love,
Your long lost son

Dean, I really thought that you knew better to say something like that.
Now Nomad will be sending a truck load of pens.
And now that I got the humor out of the way, tell us more about the auction. Got any pictures?
Also I never knew you were a 928 fan.
Dean, my son, it's your lucky day ... if you pay for crate/shipment i gladly send you a 928 ! Ok, it's a bit of a project , but for a skilled person that can be no problem.
More, it will keep you safe of the streets for some years and be proud of the final result . Me too.

this is crazy.... i just payed VAT and import taxes on the belt here at DHL....
Belt 35.05 €
Shipment 14.74 €
Belgian tax 28.04 € !!!!!!!!!
one more reason to quit our hobby in this stupid tax land.
With that high a tax, the Belgian authorities must be enjoying a healthy dose of hookers and blow.
