    New member 1965 FIA

    We have a new member, 1965 FIA (Kevin). Here's what he had to say:

    I am a Car Enthusiast and Cobra Nut, Husband, Father and Restauranteur…I have owned a few Cobras along the way (F5 FIA, SPFx 2, ERA x2, a CSX continuation and a 427 SO Kirkham with Dianna - first photo below)

    I believe that now I have found my keeper shown below an FIA / Hybrid KMP 690 427SB/5Speed .
    The car that I believe was commissioned from Kirkham by Fran Kress in 2011. She Currently sits as pictured in the middle photo below with about 2k miles on her and will be headed to me in Plano, Tx in early March …

    We plan to make the Texas Cobra Rally in San Marcos with my very supportive wife Dianna and Ricky our Chihuahua too! Eventually I will add back Frans traditional look (last photo below) the nose stripes and add some vintage race decals too.







    Well, Kevin, you certainly qualify as a car nut like the rest of us. Welcome to the forum and I hope you enjoy interacting with the members here.

    Welcome Kevin and that is a nice looking Cobra. I am glad that you can make it to the Texas Cobra Rally and it is also helpful that your wife enjoys it too. Kirkhams are great cars and if I were buying a new one I would go with them over Shelby.

    I gotta ask - I've been wanting to ask since i joined the site: I know F.I.A stands for a European racing regulatory body, but what specifically makes a Cobra an FIA Cobra? Inquiring minds want to know. Thanks so much.

    The FIA Cobra had to meet all the FIA rules and regulations for that class. The most obvious was the two dimples in the trunk so that the mandated FIA suitcase would fit in the trunk. Stupid rule, but that was what it was.

    The other notable item is the roll bar has a forward brace into the cockpit and the opening in the front for the radiator is slammer and a slightly different shape than the 427 SC. Go to the Unique Motorcars website and they sell both the FIA and the 427SC and have a posting that explains the difference between the two.
