I remember a little Ma & Pa roofing repair company (un-insured) was working on the big engine overhaul building at Tinker AFB about 30 years ago - I think it was Bldg 3001 from memory but not sure. I do remember that it was fully 3/4 mile long and served as a main engine overhaul line facility. Anyway, sure enough they set the roof on fire with a torch and burned most of the damn thing down. The Corps worked an emergency cost-plus contract, 24 hours-a-day construction for about a year or more to rebuild it and get it going again. When done they brought the Ma & Pa bunch in and sat down with them and handed them a bill for something like $200 million. I wish I could remember exactly what I was told his response was but it was something like - good luck with that - as he stood up, put on his hat and walked out to his old truck.

Sounds like a good case for bankruptcy to me. But then what is the government doing hiring unlicensed and uninsured contractors.

i don't see them rebuilding a copy.... that would mean to cut down a complete huge forrest … IF they still find oaks that are big enough….
Rebuild with modern materials… ? another Disney World Paris....

as i predicted, there are voices , break it down and make a park of it, we have cathedrals enough…

I'm afraid it was not uncommon for small repair, open-market, service and purchase requests that AF Base Contracting was issuing back then - probably Army too. The base contracting offices appeared pretty unsophisticated back then.

I read this morning that some modern materials would be used in the structure, and fire resistant construction would be utilized as well.

I'm sure that they had to have some kind of insurance on the building.

I just read where they already have $1 Billion donated for the rebuild. A lot of tax write offs there.

indeed Ron, normally 70 to 90 % …. and now they want to make a exception to 100 %.... so , who pays it in the end ? the tax payers !

Well Barry I don't have to worry about that. The $1 that I could afford to donate wouldn't amount to much of a tax write off. Now if I had Nomad and Silver's money I would donate enough to rebuild all of Paris.

If you are going to do all of Paris make sure to get rid of all the dog $hit on the sidewalks.
